The Power Probe 4 is one of our most useful and popular tools. However, like any electronics, the tool is not indestructible. Sometimes they fail, but regardless the cause, there are a couple of things to check before condemning the unit.

One of the most common issues of the Power Probe 4 is the tool will not turn on. One thing to check before condemning the tool would be to check the Battery Clipset. If you don’t have another Clipset to try, disconnect the Clipset from the Power Probe 4 and perform a continuity test across the battery cable clip and the corresponding terminals (see picture).

If one or both alligator clips show an “Open” or if there is no continuity, the Clipset is faulty and would need to be replaced. It is very likely that the Power Probe 4 will work once again with a new pair of battery clips. The Clipset (Part Number PP401) can be purchased through your local tool dealer or can be purchased by calling our toll-free number at 1 (888) 201-9831.

If you have continuity on both the red alligator clip and the black alligator clip, then the Clipset is good and most likely there will be an issue with the Power Probe 4. You can call our TeK Support on our toll-free number for further assistance.

Another common issue that we see out in the field is “CIRCUIT BREAKER RESETTING” displayed on the screen.

If this is displayed on the screen, it’s possible that the Circuit Breaker may have come loose. To check the Circuit Breaker, disconnect the tool from the battery, flip the tool over and locate the black cover and remove the two Phillips screws.

Remove the black cover and inspect to see if the Circuit Breaker has come loose.

If it has, re-insert the Circuit Breaker and connect the Power Probe 4 to a battery and verify that the “CIRCUIT BREAKER RESETTING” screen has disappeared.

If the screen still displays “CIRCUIT BREAKER RESETTING”, please contact our TeK Support Advisors for assistance.

If you have any questions, on performing these procedures, please email our TeK Support Team at info@pp-tek.com or call us at 1 (800) 655-3585.
